The baseline data for enforcement of minimum wage standardization will
be collected from the garment industry, according to presidential
advisor Dr Zaw Oo.

The research findings will be reported to the national commission
responsible for setting the minimum wage, reported the local newspaper
Voice.

The economic advisor to the president made the above comment in
meeting with employers and employees and the labour, employment and
social welfare ministry at the UMFCCI office on October 11.

The industry has already been prone to the labour disputes stemmed
from the low wages and the relatively least paid industry.

The national commission will be formed with officials from related
ministries, employers' representatives and employees' representatives.

The formation of the commission has been submitted to the President
who has yet to approve the formation.

The parliament has a few months ago approved the Minimum Wage Law.
